Haq is a powerful courtroom drama rooted in the real-life Shah Bano case, a landmark legal battle that reshaped conversations around women’s rights, religion, and maintenance laws in India. The film follows the journey of a divorced woman, played by Yami Gautam, who is left to fend for herself after her husband abandons her, pushing her to seek justice through the courts.



Emraan Hashmi essays the role of her estranged husband, with the story unfolding through gripping legal arguments and emotional face-offs. As the case progresses, Haq delves into complex themes of gender equality, constitutional law, faith, and the courage required to challenge long-standing societal norms.

Haq stars Yami Gautam Dhar as Shazia Bano, a woman fighting a high-stakes legal battle, with Emraan Hashmi playing her estranged husband, Advocate Mohammad Abbas Khan. The film also features Vartika Singh as Abbas’s second wife Saira Jahan, Sheeba Chaddha as Bela Jain, Danish Husain as Shazia’s father Maulvi Basheer Anwer, along with Aseem Hattangady, Paridhi Sharma, S. M. Zaheer, Rahul Mittra, and Anang Desai in key supporting roles that drive the courtroom drama forward.



The film is written by Reshu Nath, with music by Vishal Mishra, cinematography by Pratham Mehta, and editing by Ninad Khanolkar. It is inspired by journalist Jigna Vora’s book Bano: Bharat ki Beti and stirred legal controversy before release over its portrayal of the Shah Bano case.
