A celebratory moment from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup has spiraled into a troubling online storm after a viral reel featuring David Miller led to alleged abuse directed at Indian influencer RJ Princy Parikh. David Miller's 63 powers South Africa to dominant T20 World Cup win

India's campaign suffered a major setback after a 76-run defeat to South Africa in the Super 8 stage. Batting first, South Africa posted 187/7 in 20 overs, thanks largely to Miller's explosive 35-ball 63. India failed to chase down the target, falling well short in what turned out to be a one-sided contest in Ahmedabad.

Following the match, RJ Princy Parikh shared a reel with Miller, captioned: "David Miller! What a player." In the clip, she appeared encircling the South African batter, while the on-screen text read: "I thought we were friends, David."

The video quickly went viral - but not for the reasons she may have expected.

As the reel gained traction, criticism flooded social media. Some users labeled the interaction "cringe," while others questioned the International Cricket Council's decision to integrate influencers into major tournament coverage.

The conversation soon shifted from the cricketing result to the tone and nature of post-match content creation. However, what followed took a far darker turn.

RJ Princy Parikh alleges rape threats and body shaming after reel

According to Parikh, the backlash escalated beyond criticism into targeted abuse. She claimed she received "disturbing rape threats" and was subjected to body-shaming messages in her direct messages after the video circulated widely.

Overwhelmed by the response, she deleted the reel from her Facebook account, though it remains visible on Instagram. Parikh also stated that she intends to file a police complaint regarding the threats.

In a post reflecting her emotional state, she wrote that she felt like "disappearing right now," underscoring the toll the online harassment had taken.

From cricket triumph to social media fallout

What should have remained a story about South Africa's commanding performance instead became overshadowed by an online harassment controversy.

As the tournament progresses, the episode raises uncomfortable questions about fan behavior, digital accountability, and the fine line between sporting celebration and social media spectacle.
