Delhi Government Approves Rs. 327 Crore Projects for JJ Clusters on Republic Day

On Republic Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved infrastructure projects worth Rs. 327 crore for JJ clusters, with Rs.144 crore worth of works already awarded, focusing on basic amenities and development.

On the occasion of Republic Day, the Delhi Government approved infrastructure projects worth around Rs. 327 crore aimed at improving basic amenities in Jhuggi-Jhopri (JJ) clusters across the capital. Of the total approved amount, projects worth Rs. 144 crore have already been awarded, officials said. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated several development works at an event held at the Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan, where representatives from JJ clusters across Delhi were present. The Chief Minister also interacted with the representatives and discussed key issues related to living conditions and infrastructure needs in JJ settlements.
According to officials, the approved projects include the construction of public convenience complexes and cement concrete works in internal lanes of JJ clusters. Under the public convenience complex category, administrative approval of Rs. 225 crore has been granted for 476 works, with Rs. 81 crore worth of projects already awarded. Similarly, cement concrete works worth Rs. 102 crore have been approved for 254 projects, of which Rs. 63 crore worth of work has been awarded.
The programme was attended by Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) CEO Rupesh Thakur, and other officials. Several women representatives from JJ clusters also participated. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the government is focusing on improving access to basic infrastructure such as sanitation, roads, drains, and community facilities in JJ areas. She added that a dedicated budget of Rs. 700 crore has been allocated for JJ cluster development, covering areas such as housing, health, sanitation, and social welfare.
Officials said the government is also implementing initiatives such as Atal Canteens and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in JJ clusters to improve access to food and healthcare services. Several of the approved projects were inaugurated during the event. The Delhi Government stated that the aim of these initiatives is to ensure that development reaches residents living in informal settlements and improves overall living conditions through planned infrastructure upgrades.
