Stranger Things season 5: Fans spot a modern outfit slip in Holly Wheeler's Vecna scene — did Netflix edit it out?

Fans of Stranger Things recently spotted a curious anachronism in the latest season. During episode seven of Season 5, titled “The Bridge”, Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) was seen wearing an Under Armour shirt while trapped under Vecna’s vines. The detail immediately raised eyebrows, as the series is set in 1987, almost a decade before the sportswear brand was founded.




The moment did not go unnoticed. Viewers quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, sharing screenshots and joking about the discrepancy. One user quipped, “Holly wearing Under Armour in season five is more unsettling than Vecna.” Another fan, however, remained unbothered, writing, “Mistakes happen. I didn’t even notice until people pointed it out.”

Netflix and the Duffer Brothers responded swiftly. The editing error was quietly corrected in Volume 2, ensuring that the Under Armour logo no longer appears as Holly escapes Vecna’s trap in the Abyss, also known as Dimension X.



Holly, previously portrayed by twins Anniston Prince and Tinsley Price, plays a far more central role in this season than in earlier instalments. Initially, the Duffer Brothers hadn’t anticipated her becoming critical to the plot. Matt Duffer admitted, “We knew Max would be trapped in Vecna’s mind, but Holly’s story evolved a lot as we worked with the writers.” Her character ultimately becomes key to Max’s escape, showing significant growth from a minor character in past seasons to a crucial figure in the final chapter.




The Duffer Brothers’ creative process for Stranger Things has always involved adapting to the cast. For example, Finn Wolfhard’s unique energy shaped the character of Mike, and Gaten Matarazzo’s personality influenced Dustin’s evolution. Even the younger cast members, like Priah Ferguson’s Erica, were expanded into larger roles as filming progressed.



Season five reflects a culmination of years of careful planning and improvisation. Practical effects remain central to the show’s nostalgic aesthetic, though the team faced challenges balancing old-school techniques with modern production schedules.

The series’ roots trace back to the Duffers’ work on Wayward Pines and an early concept titled Montauk. Originally intended to film on Long Island, logistical challenges led the team to Atlanta, which has since become the series’ production hub. Even early casting decisions drew on classic coming-of-age films like Stand By Me to find the perfect actors for the central group.




Notably, Millie Bobby Brown’s portrayal of Eleven required a significant personal transformation, including shaving her head at just 12 years old, an empowering moment she has described as pivotal in her acting journey.

Volume three of Stranger Things is set to premiere on Netflix on 31 December at 8 p.m. ET, promising fans more supernatural thrills, unexpected plot twists, and further surprises in the Upside Down.





As the show nears its conclusion, the Duffer Brothers hint at potential spin-offs while maintaining secrecy over the plot. Season five demonstrates how small details, like a shirt logo, can capture fan attention, reflecting both the series’ meticulous production and the devotion of its audience.
