Tragic accident linked to popular TV show scene

According to the Daily Mail, the 12-year-old boy was found unresponsive at his family home in Glasshoughton during his younger brother's First Holy Communion celebrations, with a sheet around his neck on the stairs. As per the reports, his friends and family described him as a popular prankster who enjoyed making others laugh.

Sebastian tragically could not be revived despite the desperate efforts of paramedics. The inquest revealed that he may have been attempting to recreate a disturbing scene from Squid Game, in which a character is hanged. On the day of his death, he shared an image of the character in a WhatsApp group.

As per the police, there was no evidence that he had searched for dangerous online challenges, although he had watched the show and had searched YouTube for a first-aid video on 'surviving choking alone'.

Experts warn of deadly risks in choking challenges

As per health professionals, the games or challenges involving self-choking can result in permanent brain damage or even death in under five minutes. The inquest heard that Sebastian had a history of pretending to be unconscious while play fighting.

This led police to believe that the child may have underestimated the danger when attempting to imitate the Squid Game scene. The tragic misjudgement highlights how seemingly harmless pranks can quickly turn fatal.

No evidence of online challenges involvement

Investigators found no link between Sebastian's death and TikTok challenges or other dangerous online trends, dismissing early speculation as unfounded. Authorities stated that his actions seemed solely linked to imitating a scene from television.
