On Sunday, December 28, Britney Spears, 44, shared a post on Instagram that quickly drew attention. The post showed a photo of a Christmas tree, but it was the caption that stood out. In what many saw as sarcasm, Britney addressed her family directly.

“Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix,” she wrote. She continued, “To my dear sweet innocent family… So sorry I was busy this Christmas, but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon.”

Earlier in the week, Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn Spears posted a family Christmas photo on Instagram. The picture showed several members of the Spears family together in Louisiana. Included were Britney’s older son Preston, her mother Lynne, Jamie Lynn, and Jamie Lynn’s daughters Maddie and Ivey.

While most of her family celebrated together elsewhere, Britney spent Christmas with her younger son, Jayden. A source previously told People that Britney and Jayden, 19, had a joyful holiday together. “Britney had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden; it’s been such a special holiday,” the source shared.

Jayden is Britney’s son with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline. The two have grown closer recently, and their bond seemed to be a bright spot during the holiday season.

Britney’s older son, Preston, 20, did not spend Christmas with her this year. Instead, he celebrated with his grandmother, Lynne Spears, aunt Jamie Lynn, and his cousins. Jamie Lynn’s Instagram post showed the family smiling together, a moment Britney was not part of.
